Get Motivated, Get S#!T Done
With summer long gone, you're probably finding that the days are colder, shorter, dimmer and wetter. As a result, you might find yourself down in the dumps and not motivated to get s#!t done. Personally, I get myself pumped to do things by writing amazing blogs, which you love reading, putting in my earbuds and play some tasty jams. My go-to tunes are anything by NOFX, Rancid or Bad Religion.
But everyone has their own ritual to get motivated. Our Business Development Manager, Neera, likes to start her day with a little bit of Reddit in the morning with her coffee. She glances over the Get Motivated thread right before heading off to her favourite place in the world, Meal in a Jar. You'll find motivational gems like this one on this thread.
You might not be an avid Redditor, but here are some daily activities you can do to get yourself motivated:
Find Inspiration
Here's the Oxford English Dictionary definition of inspiration. (mass noun) The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. Read blogs (like this one), books, magazines, or even textbooks (you do you). Read about your idol, someone you look up to, and read their success stories. Or someone who's in the same position as you. One person who I find as an inspiration for my own goals is Elon Musk.
Get Excited
If you want to break out of a slump, then get yourself excited about your goal(s). But Eric, you ask, how do I that when I don’t feel motivated? Well, young grasshopper, it starts with inspiration from others (see above), but you have to take that excitement and build on it. Visualize what it would mean to be successful to you (imagine yourself driving that Tesla) and you'll get excited about your goal. Once you've done that, it’s just a matter of carrying that energy forward and keeping it going. Remember how excited you were when The Last Jedi trailer came out, (in case you missed it, here it is)? Focus on building that type of excitement.
Share Publicly
Share your goals with your friends, family, coworkers, cat, dog, secret-lovers (maybe that's not so public). None of us like to look bad in front of other people. We will go the extra mile to do something we’ve said publicly. Hold yourself accountable, don’t just commit once, but commit to giving progress updates to everyone every week or so. Don't worry, people won't find your posts annoying like they do when someone posts a picture of their newborn child every day. Haters gon' hate, but true friends will encourage you throughout your journey.
Block Out Negative Thoughts
It’s important to start monitoring your thoughts. Recognize negative self-talk, which is really what’s causing your slump. After becoming aware of recurring negative thoughts, squash them like a bug and replace them with a corresponding positive thought. Replace, “This is too hard!” with, “I can do this!" But keep it reasonable, just because Usain Bolt ran 100m in under 10 seconds doesn't mean you're going to be the next track star.
Eat Eat Eat!
Most of all, you need to eat. You're going to need to stay focused on your task and not worry about what's for lunch and dinner. You're going to need fuel to power you through the process of becoming that boss b***h you were meant to be. No worries, we have you covered with our handy, ready-to-eat jars. We have the right jar plan to fit with your lifestyle. #BestProductPlugSegwayEver ;)
